In Module 2, new concepts were introduced to enhance the use of AI in education and English language teaching, significantly increasing my knowledge. This module also provided a list of AI tools that can be used to create interactive materials for students. Additionally, I included some supplementary materials, such as a flashcard and a link to a song. Finally, I added an image of a created gem that analyzes stories for children.
Development (Reflection on Key Concepts)
What were the most important concepts you learned?
In the second module, the concepts were fewer,
and they dealt with how students can be dependent on AI tools. This dependency
might affect human interaction. Also, I learned how to use the different AI
tools appropriately.
I consider making a short list of concepts because the use of AI can be misused.
AI-Assisted Language Learning promotes not only engaging learning but also adaptive learning.
AI-assisted writing enhances writing skills like grammar, coherence, and vocabulary.
Digital natives refer to the use of technology in the daily lives of humans.
Digital immigrants are people who were raised before the digital age. However, these people are trying to deal with the technological era.
New tech honeymoons refer to the use of technology with a specific purpose.
Here are some AI tools that were taught in this module.
Curipod, MagicSlides, Beetoven, Decktopus, Visme, NotebookLM, Twee.com, Elevenlabs. ia, Ttsmp3.com, Grammarly, QuillBot.
All this, AI tools have their purpose. Some of
them have the purpose of creating slides, audio, podcasts, and others.
Unfortunately, the majority of the previous AI tools need to be paid, and this
can be a disadvantage for creating a task.
How did these concepts challenge your previous
understanding of English language teaching?
All the concepts have been
interesting because they allow us to know more about the use of AI in education
and English language teaching. Regarding AI tools, I did not have any idea they
existed. When the teacher explained and demonstrated their uses, I
said it was incredible.
Conclusion and key learnings
How will the knowledge gained from this module influence your teaching methods? My knowledge has gradually increased, and I now understand the importance of being creative when creating materials with AI. I also realize that how I phrase my tasks for AI is crucial. Utilizing artificial intelligence has evolved my teaching methods.
Can
you think of a specific lesson or activity where you could apply what you’ve
learned? I
could create a podcast, which would be an interesting new method for engaging
students. I plan to choose a topic that students often struggle with and use
NotebookLM for this project. I selected NotebookLM because it allows for
interaction with AI and facilitates the creation of mind maps in seconds.
