This reflection will explore key concepts learned from the module, discuss how these concepts challenged previous understandings of English language teaching, and outline plans for applying them in future teaching practices. Additionally, it will cover the influence of this knowledge on teaching methods and propose a specific lesson where the learned concepts can be applied. Finally, the document incorporates examples of content created with AI.
Development (Reflection on Key Concepts)
What were the most important concepts you learned?
Here is a concept list that is useful to know when working with AI. Despite there being many concepts, I decided to write down some of them.
Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence technology that can produce various types of content, including text, imagery, audio, and synthetic data.
Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that deals with the creation of intelligent agents, which are systems that can reason, learn, and act autonomously.
Machine learning is a program or system that trains a model from input. The trained model can make useful predictions from new data.
Generative model generates new data instances based on a learned probability distribution of existing data.
Hallucinations make the output text difficult to understand and make the model more likely to generate incorrect or misleading information.
Large Language Models refer to large, general-purpose language models that can be pre-trained and then finetuned for specific purposes.
Prompt design is the process of creating a prompt that is tailored to the specific task that the system is being asked to perform.
Prompt engineering is the process of creating a prompt that is designed to improve performance.
Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that integrates the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.
Users are the people who interact with the thing, service, offering, system, etc. that you make.
Design research is the practice of inquiry and discovery that builds knowledge, insight, and empathy for your users.
Empathy is the action
of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another.
Prototype a first or early example that is used as a model for what comes later.
Iterate to change something existing (an idea, a product, a service, etc.) in small or big ways, gradually, to improve it.
How did these concepts challenge your previous understanding of English language teaching?
Initially,
these concepts were difficult to understand due to their complexity; however,
as I began to practice, I found it easier to appreciate their significance in
working with AI.
How do you plan to apply these concepts in your future teaching?
First,
I would provide my students with a list of these concepts. Then, I would
demonstrate how to use artificial intelligence. This way, students will not
only grasp the ideas but also learn how to create what they want using AI
tools. I intend to use platforms like Gemini or ChatGPT, as they particularly
caught my attention.
Conclusion and key learnings
How will the knowledge gained from this module influence your teaching methods?
The
knowledge gained from this module has influenced my teaching methods by
enabling me to incorporate technology into my lessons. I believe that students
will be curious about how to use AI and how to create their projects.
Can
you think of a specific lesson or activity where you could apply what you’ve
learned?
One specific activity I could implement is the creation of flashcards using tools like Gemini or ChatGPT. This activity would introduce students to the basics of writing prompts and could assist them in learning vocabulary effectively.
Incorporation of content created with AI
I decided to include some images because they were the first creation using AI; also, I include the certificate I got at the beginning of this course.

Hello Gladis! I liked how honest you were about struggling with the complexity at first because it makes your reflection very relatable. Great job organizing the key AI concepts. Maybe you could highlight which one was most surprising or useful for you. It’s great that you already thought of concrete ideas, like using flashcards and showing students how AI works. I love how curious you are about using AI tools like Gemini and ChatGPT. That attitude will definitely inspire your students too. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHi Gladis!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog, especially the part where you shared your plans for incorporating AI tools into classroom activities. I found it inspiring how you aim to make learning more creative and engaging through the use of AI-generated flashcards. It’s also great that you're helping your students become more aware of the digital tools they can use to expand their vocabulary. Looking forward to seeing how these ideas develop!
Good job!!♡
